Celebrity Cruises luxury vessel, the 77,713-ton super-luxurious Mercury, arrived in Southampton on Friday, October 17, 1997.
The introduction of Mercury (pictured), was the third in Celebrity's new series of technologically advanced ships.
A company spokesman said : "Mercury not only features Celebrity's signature AquaSpa, high technology Celebrity Theatre and an advanced interactive communications system, but also provides passengers with the uncompromising levels of cuisine and service excellence for which Celebrity has earned its outstanding five-star reputation."
A prominent design team, including the original contributors to Century and Galaxy, as well as notable American designers, created a unique platform of style and function onboard the ship. Mercury's public rooms are designed to flow together, allowing passengers to relax in the spacious surroundings of the ship without feeling crowded.
Among original features of Mercury
- Two atriums
- A sliding glass roof over the third swimming pool
- A special lounge for teenagers
- An indoor and outdoor children's play area
In addition, 30 per cent of Mercury's cabins have private verandahs.
