February 4, 2010 - DFDS Seaways is taking to the water again with whale and dolphin charity ORCA to spot the exciting inhabitants of the North Sea.
All passengers on King of Scandinavia, travelling every other day between Newcastle and Amsterdam from April to September, will be able to enjoy a wildlife watching experience led by an expert ORCA Wildlife Officer.
The Wildlife Officer will give lively presentations, organise deck watches and point out any animals and sea-birds found in the North Sea, as well as running children's activities. Common wildlife to spot en route includes minke whale, dolphin, harbour porpoise, gannet, great skua, fulmar, kittiwake and many more.
The Officer will be on hand throughout the crossing to answer questions on what passengers can expect to find at sea. Importantly they can also provide information on what passengers can do at home to help conserve marine life. The activities offer great fun for families and eco-interested travellers.
At the onboard ORCA Wildlife Centre, there will be information not just about the marine life in the North Sea and its conservation, but also of places where wildlife can be seen within driving distance of Newcastle and Amsterdam.
Book a special 2-night ORCA Wildlife Watching Mini Cruise from just £89pp, and you can enjoy all these activities, plus the best part of the day in Amsterdam.
Plus there is no need to pre-book. Passengers who are travelling from Newcastle onboard King of Scandinavia can take part in most of the ORCA wildlife watching activities at no extra cost, just join in and have fun!
In recognition to the commitment of their wildlife activities, ORCA have awarded DFDS Seaways with The Conservation Partner of the Year.
ORCA is a UK-based charity committed to the study of whales, dolphins and porpoises, and the promotion of their conservation worldwide through enthusing, inspiring and educating others.

Harwich to Esbjerg ORCA Wildlife Mini Cruises
DFDS Seaways is also running a wildlife break on their Harwich - Esbjerg route to Denmark with wildlife partner Planet Whale. On the Miracle of Migration Cruise guests will discover the wildlife and beautiful landscapes of the island of Fano. Passengers will step out on deck in search of seals, porpoises and birds with expert wildlife spotters, and then on arrival into Denmark head to Fano, internationally important for migrating and feeding birds, as well as being famous for its beautiful beaches and dunes.
Guests will watch migration in action with thousands of birds making fuel stops en route between their wintering and breeding grounds. On the 2009 trip 50,000 birds of nearly 100 species were seen in a single day.
Denmark's largest colony of Common and Grey Seals will also be on the agenda, and time will be spent in some beautiful old Scandinavian villages, making this a great short break for anyone with a passion for nature and culture!
Prices start from just £140pp and include three nights on ship including one night in Esbjerg port and one and a half days fully guided bird and wildlife watching on Fano, plus activities on board. Departures are from Harwich on May 2, September 19 and October 10.
