YEAR 2007-08Fred Olsen Cruise Line

Civilisations: A cruise package
into A World of Culture

April 16, 2007 - 'Civilisations' is a new package of onboard activities on selected Black Watch cruises for 2007/8.

Perfect for those passengers with a passion for learning and a spirit of adventure, Civilisations is an add-on package which includes exclusive on board lectures from at least two specialist guest lecturers, exclusive accompanied shore excursions in the majority of ports of call, dedicated staff and a souvenir leather journal in which to record every moment of these very special holidays.

You will find Black Watch a perfect example of the Golden Age of Cruising. She was built for long, luxury cruising and this is reflected in the generous amount of space relative to passenger numbers, which means you will never feel crowded or cramped while aboard. Lectures will be conducted in the spacious 150 seat Marina Theatre which has cinema facilities to add an extra dimension to your programme.

The first Civilisations package is available on the 'Celts & Vikings' Norway cruise departing Dover July 7 for eight nights. With themes of Edvard Grieg Centenary and Nordic History, this cruise takes you to some of Norway's most spectacular scenery. You will make discoveries on topics such as the inspiration behind some of Grieg's most famous works and the relationship between Norse settlers and natives.

Two acclaimed lecturers, celebrated concert pianist Simon Dunbavand, and Trevor Gunton - an expert in Viking and Norse history - will be your hosts. Cruise price is currently on offer from £865 per person (based on two people sharing an inside twin cabin) plus £399 per person for the Civilisations package.

Other Civilisations cruises are:

  • Baltic History & Lapp Culture on the 'Lapland & St Petersburg' Baltic Cruise - departs Dover on July 15 for 17 nights (cruise from £1,669 per person, civilisations package additional £699 per person)
  • Exploration and Migrations on the 'Canaries a la Carte' cruise - departs Dover on September 10 for 13 nights (cruise from £1,155 per person, civilisations package additional £269 per person)
  • Hanseatic History and Classical Music on the 'Christmas Market' cruise - departs Dover on December 9 for eight nights (cruise from £729 per person, civilisations package additional £349 per person)
  • Ancient Civilisations and Exploration on the 'Easter Flavours' Cruise - departs London by air on March 20, 2008 for 32 nights cruise from Singapore (cruise from £2,880 per person, civilisations package additional £899 per person)

The Civilisations programme must be booked prior to the cruise and cannot be joined once on board. Package prices vary depending upon length of cruise and number of shore tours included.
