EMERALD PRINCESS Set to sparkle in Rome
January, 2007 - Princess Cruises' next new ship, the 113,000-ton Emerald Princess, will set sail on her first voyage from Rome in April.
Currently under construction at Italy's Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, she will be the line's first ship to begin life cruising from Rome's seaport, the town of Civitavecchia.
She sailed sailed through her sea trials in January, marking a key construction milestone on the way to the ship's April 2007 debut. She left the building dock at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, and sailed for several days as the vessel's technical systems were successfully tested.
And in a historic first for Princess Cruises, the 3,100-passenger Emerald Princess and 710-passenger Royal Princess will formally join the fleet in an unprecedented dual christening ceremony in the Greek island of Santorini.
The simultaneous namings will take place on May 12, 2007, and will be the first double ship launch for Princess.
Her first cruise, a 12-day Greek Isles itinerary, is scheduled to set sail on April 11 on a voyage to Venice via Naples/Capri, Santorini, Rhodes, Kusadasi, Mykonos, Athens, Katakolon, Corfu and Dubrovnik. Thereafter she will offer a series of Greek Isles and Grand Mediterranean cruises before repositioning to Ft Lauderdale for Caribbean sailings in the fall.
The new vessel will include many of the same new design elements and amenities debuting aboard Crown Princess, including a dramatic new piazza-style atrium, new casual dining venues and expansion of some favourite shipboard areas.
Emerald Princess will offer the many other innovations that define the Princess experience, including the popular Movies Under the Stars poolside movie screen, multiple dining and entertainment options, Personal Choice Dining featuring traditional or Anytime seating, a variety of alternative restaurants, a relaxing Asian-style Lotus Spa with fitness center, an extensive children and teen's center, a wedding chapel and nearly 900 staterooms with private balconies.
