LEGEND OF THE SEAS
Factfile
- Legend of the Seas entered service on May 16, 1995
- She carries 1,808 passengers and is among the widest and fastest cruise ships in the world, capable of travelling in excess of 24 knots.
- The ship is almost as long as three football fields and stretches more than 118ft from one side to another.
- Legend featured the world's first floating 18-hole miniature golf course- "Legend of The Links". Some of the most famous holes from courses around the world are replicated with trees, sand traps, water hazards and flowers.
- The 1,148 square foot Royal Suite has a baby grand piano, entertainment centre, refrigator and wet bar, whirlpool tub and veranda.
- One out of every four staterooms onboard has a private veranda and all cabins have a sitting area with sofa.
- Legend unites two of Royal Caribbean's hall mark design features. A multi-deck atrium, The Centrum, extends up to the distinctive Viking Crown Lounge, nine storeys high with a 360 degree view of the ocean.
- The two million square feet of steel needed to construct the ship would cover 40 football fields or could be used to build two more Blackpool Towers or 70 Canary Wharf Towers.
- Passengers seated in Legend's Viking Crown Lounge, which is wrapped around the ships's smokestack, are almost high enough to look the Statue of Liberty right in the eyes.
- Desalinisation equipment produces more than 1,000 tons of potable water daily - enough for an adult to take a shower a day for 25 years.
- Ice machines on board produce enough ice cubes each day (more than 15 tons) to cool nearly half-a-million drinks.
