Two more new ships to follow Seabourn Odyssey
Seabourn has two more new, ultra luxury ships on their way following in the wake of Seabourn Odyssey who made her debut in June 2009.
Seabourn Sojourn is expected to enter service in 2010, and bookings for Seabourn Odyssey prompted Seabourn to exercise its option for a third, Seabourn Quest which arrives in 2011.
Each of 32,000-ton the ships, outlined left, are being built by T. Mariotti of Genoa, Italy, at a cost of $250 million and will accommodate 450 guests in 225 luxury suites, 90 per cent of them with private verandas.
Says Seabourn president Pamela Conover: "Our decision to order a third new ship is based partly on the enthusiasm we have already seen for our new ship design. That enthusiasm, combined with research indicating a continuing robust expansion in demand for ultra luxury cruising in general, convinces us that we have the right formula at the right time."
According to Micky Arison, chairman of parent company Carnival: "This new trio of beautiful, yacht-like ships will maintain Seabourn's role as the leader in the ultra luxury segment, and position the company to satisfy the growing demand among affluent travelers for more ultra luxury cruising options."
The design specifications call for hulls 650ft long, with a beam of 84ft and a draft of 21ft. The ships will be powered by diesel-generated electricity and operate with twin screw propellers, with a service speed of 19 knots. They will be equipped with two bow thrusters to enhance maneuverability and two stabilizers. The ships will also be "green ships" employing advanced wastewater treatment technology.
