August 20, 2007 - Star Clippers has announced that the passenger ship Star Flyer will operate out of Tahiti from 30 December 2007.
The cruises will start from the Tahitian capital Papeete each Sunday, to sail seven, ten and 11-night voyages, which will include the Society Islands and the Tuamotus visiting, among others Bora Bora, Moorea, Huahine and Raiatea, Taha'a and Rangiroa.
The Tahitian people have always prided themselves on being one of the first cultures to conquer the seas and French Polynesia has identified cruising as a vitally important part of its tourism industry. Since 2002, the market has doubled and now represents 20 per cent of tourism in French Polynesia, enabling guests to visit off the beaten track islands.
Starflyer offers a wonderfully romantic and eminently affordable way to explore Tahiti and her islands without staying in high priced hotels. One week costs from £880 per person including all meals and port taxes (flights excluded) if you book before October 31.
And if you are on honeymoon, there will be a complimentary bottle of champagne, a luscious bowl of tropical fruit and a £50 credit to cover on board spending.
Star Flyer combines the pampered luxury of mega yacht cruising with the thrilling sensation of sailing aboard an authentic clipper ship. More like a sailing ship cast adrift from a period drama, it offers guests the chance to discover what it was like to sail the high seas and call on intimate ports untouched by larger cruise ships. With a capacity of 170 passengers, it also makes for the last word in informal and intimate.
