Bonjour Angleterre
CALAIS is promising a warm welcome for
British visitors. Throughout the town, and
indeed throughout the whole of France,
hotels, restaurants, shops, supermarkets
and tourist offices are taking part in the Bonjour Campaign which promises a welcome "at every moment, at any time of day or night, and at any time of the year".
The smiling Tricolour logo, Bonjour, aims to guarantee that the world's most popular holiday destination, with more than 60 million visitors, remains the most welcoming and friendly.
The objective of this national campaign is to encourage everyone in France to join in the initiative, not just those people who work in the travel, tourism, hotel and restaurant businesses. It also sets out to encourage

employees to learn new languages so
that holidaymaker can be looked after
using their native tongue. At the forefront
of the launch of Bonjour have been 3,600 tourist offices and 30 travel trade associations, working throughout the length and breadth of France to spread the gospel.
Participants sign a contract of welcome, pledging to maintain and improve their surroundings and environment, to guarantee excellent standards of service and to give full and accurate information. Signatories of the contract also print the words "I promise a warm welcome" on their literature.
Anyone who launches an exceptional initiative can win national awards and a major advertising campaign has been running across the country.
