SeaFrance carers win Virgin award November 17, 2009 - SeaFrance has been highly commended by the judges of the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards 2009, organised by responsibletravel.com. The awards, launched in 2004, celebrate organisations and individuals in the travel industry that are making a significant contribution to environmental conservation and to the culture and economies of local communities.
SeaFrance was awarded highly commended in the best responsible cruise or ferry operator category for both its environmental work with the Marine Conservation Society and its ongoing promotion and support of small businesses and environmental tourism in the Pas de Calais region of France.
As the lead sponsor of the Marine Conservation Society's Beachwatch campaign, SeaFrance staff regularly clean their local beach in Kent and educate children in local schools and the wider community about the problems of marine litter. Over the last 17 months, the ferry operator has raised more than £264,000 to the cause.
